Executive leadership experience ● Directed all functions of the Alaska Board of Marine Pilots, resulting in a legislative recommendation that the board be renewed for eight years, the maximum extension allowed under state law. ● Served as Deputy Director for the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing during a change of administration, providing leadership during a period of dynamic transition. ● Led the newsroom of Alaska’s capital city newspaper following the abrupt departure of the managing editor. This included the creation of a $500,000 budget and oversight of a newsroom that won 11 Alaska Press Club awards in 2010. ● Directed, along with the managing editor, a digital newspaper which won a Gold Crown from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and numerous other national and regional awards. Deputy Director/Division Operations Manager (Acting) November 2018 - January 2019 State of Alaska, Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing ● Served as deputy director of a division with approximately 100 employees, with direct supervisory authority over six executive administrators and a program coordinator. ● Assisted the division director as her principal advisor and performed the director’s duties in her absence. ● Provided subject-matter expertise to the director and department, particularly in the areas of public records requests, communications and public relations, continuing education requirements for licensure, regulation review and reform and maritime commerce. ● Prepared policy documents, including legislative proposals and transition plans, and advised regulatory boards.
